GCSE Questions: Pressure, buoyancy, upthrust and fluids

Q7.

Sally tries to compress the fluid in a sealed syringe with a force of 10N.

The area of the plunger is 0.1m2.

(a) Calculate the pressure in the fluid.

Pressure = Force/Area

P = F/A

P = 10/0.1

P = 100 Pa

b) Write down the direction of the force produced by the fluid on the plunger.

The force will be at right angles/perpendicular/90° (to the plunger surface) - in other words 'to the left' or 'in the opposite direction to the force applied to the fluid by the plunger'.
