GCSE Questions: Energy Changes

Q1.

A child of mass 18 kilograms goes down a slide.

The vertical distance from the top to the bottom of the slide is 2.5 metres. The length of the sloping sliding area is 5 metres.

Taking gravitational field strength to be 10 N/kg, calculate the decrease in gravitational potential energy of the child sliding from the top to the bottom of the slide.

[4 marks]

ΔGPE = mgΔh where 'h' is the vertical height

ΔGPE = 18 x 10 x 2.5

ΔGPE = 450 J
