Safety in practical lessons that use OPTICS EQUIPMENT

General safety

  • Much optical work involves electricity and use of glassware (lenses, prisms etc)- look at those sections too by clicking on the links.

Laser:

  • The lasers that are to be used at KS3/4 are fixed to a board for additional safety.
  • Girls must be warned of the danger to eyesight when using the lasers even though they are very low power.
  • Lasers are expensive and should be carefully handled and carefully put in the prep room after use.
  • The keys to the 6 th form laser units are kept by the technicians and should be returned to them after use.
