Using Fleming's Right Hand Induction Rule

Below are diagrams that represent a strand of a wire loop being moved between the poles of a magnet producing a current by electromagnetic induction.

Test your understanding of Fleming's Rule

Copy these diagrams into your book.

Draw in the field lines for the magnet and using Fleming's Rule (make sure you use the correct hand!) to predict the direction that the current will flow.

Use the standard symbol for current flow on your diagram.

The idea here is for you to practice manipulating your hand to solve the question as you would have to in the examination room....

Doing the first one and then working out the others by pattern rather than workingout each one using the 'hand' defeats the purpose of the exercise!

Do each question by manipulating your fingers... it is good for your soul!

After having a go at working out the answers 'mouseover' the images and see if you were correct!

The Questions

The diagrams below have the direction of current indicated but are missing the direction in which the wire has been moved to create this current flow. Complete the diagrams by indicating the direction of movement of the wire.

These diagrams have the direction of current indicated and the direction in which the wire has been moved to create this current flow but pole markings on the magnets. Complete the diagrams by writing in the N and S markers on the magnets.

These final diagrams direction of movement needed to produce the current flow indicated in the diagram.

Now 'mouseover' the images and see if you were correct!
