To
find the centre of gravity of a flat card shape |

Hang the picture vertically from a pinpoint as shown in the diagram. Make sure it can swing freely! Mark the position of the plumbline with three small crosses. Remove the card from the retort stand. Care you don't prick yourself with the pin! Using a ruler, draw a line right across the shape so that it passes through each of the crosses. Repeat this for another pinpoint (so that it hangs in a totally different direction) The point where the lines cross is the centre of gravity of the shape - you should be able to balance it at that point - try standing it on the end of your pencil! |
