Questions on the Earth in Space

Q14. Our solar system consists of planets orbiting the Sun. Some of these planets have moons.

(a) Use your knowledge of distances in space to work out which of the four distances applies to the four statements below. Drawing lines to join the boxes.

The examiners would not expect you to 'know' the distances involved - they just expect you to know the relative distances.

You should know that:

  • The shortest distance in the list is from Earth to the Moon.
  • The longest is from the Sun to Pluto.
  • Mercury is closer to the Sun than Earth is.

From that info you can work out which distance is which!
